Beautiful Tibetan Monasteries
Due to numerous Tibetan people settling in the parts of Kullu and Manali area, Tibetan Monasteries are built and have become one of the most popular places in the hill station. Three important beautiful monasteries in Manali are Aleo, Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa and Himalayan Nyingamapa Temple.
Nestled near the Mall, the Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa is run by locals, gathering money through donations. What makes this monastery unique is that Tibetan artistry handicrafts and carpets are woven and sold here. Constructed in 1969, the design represents the Tibetan style architecture with coloured frescoes and a statue of Lord Buddha inside the monastery.
The Himalayan Nyingamapa Gompa is located near the market place in Manali. Its architecture replicates a contemporary design, not similar to the previous one. Surrounded by sunflowers, the monastery glows during the night due to the light bulbs which lights up the structure. A gold-faced bronze statue of Lord Buddha is present.
These beautiful monasteries in Manali are surrounded by plenty of shops selling amazing carpets and handicrafts. These monasteries also run a Thanks School of Arts and a Carpet-weaving Center which preserves the ancient art and culture of Tibet. The paintings demonstrate events from the life of Lord Buddha and Kalchakra, which is the wheel of life, showing the human’s life cycle. The Buddhists believe that you can attain salvation by rotating these wheels. Tourists can walk or trek to these places and the monasteries are open from 6 A.M to 6 P.M.
